Instant Messaging Configuring Look-n-Feel Installation and Login Logging In

Pulver.Communicator takes the work out of conference calling, providing on-the-fly start-up, simple invite actions that require no advance set-up or notification, and easy Call Leader management functionality.  Conference calls made via Communicator can include subscribers to Free World Dialup, as well as anybody using a SIP service provider with which FWD has established a partnering agreement.  pulver.Communicator conference calls cannot include Skype contacts, though, as calls to the Skype network are routed through and controlled via the Skype application.

Quick Starting a Conference Call

If one of your conference call participants is present on your pulver.Communicator Buddy List, you can quick-start a conference call with a single-click.

Note:  Any Buddy List contact with a telephone presence recognized by pulver.Communicator can participate in a Conference (with the exception of Skype contacts whose calls are routed through and controlled via the Skype application).
  1. Highlight the display name for any Buddy who will participate in your conference call, then invoke the Tools|Open Conference Call command or the Open Conference Call command from the right-click menu.

         

The Chat/Conference window will open, and the selected Buddy will be added to the call.  To confirm the initial connection, refer to the status indicators at the bottom of the screen.

Once a connection with the selected Buddy is established their name and status will display in the roster field at the upper-right of the Chat/Conference window.

  1. To bring additional parties into the conference call, click the Add participant button in the middle-right of the window.   The Add participant dialog will display.

  1. Using the Add participant dialog drop-list, select the party who is to be added to the conference call and click Add.  Continue adding participants until all desired parties have been added (refer to Adding Parties to a Conference).

Any Buddy List contact with a telephone presence recognized by pulver.Communicator can fully participate in a conference.  Buddies whose telephone presence is not recognized -- such as IM contacts or Skype contacts -- can be added to the conference, however their participation is limited to Instant Messaging.

Note:  Only the conference call leader (the party who initiated the call) can add parties to a conference call.
  1. Once you have established an initial connection for the conference call click the Add participant button in the right-middle of the Chat/Conference window to reveal the Add participant dialog.

         

  1. Using the Add participant dialog drop-list, select the party who is to be added to the multi-party IM session.

Note:  To add a party to a conference call who is not present on your Buddy List, enter the party's FWD number (or the access code and number for a partnering VoIP service provider) directly into the drop-list field.
  1. Click Add.  The addition of the selected party will be indicated in the roster at the top right of the Chat/Conference window, and indication of their addition will also be made in the chat window for the conference.

  1. Repeat steps 1 to 3 to until all desired parties have been added to the conference.

Note:  Only the conference call leader (the party who initiated the call) can drop parties from a conference call in progress.
  1. Highlight the display name for the Buddy in the roster field at the right of the Chat/Conference window.

  1. Click the Drop participant button to remove the selected party from the conference call.

  2. Repeat steps 1 and 2 as necessary.

Adjusting Conference Phone Controls

Whenever a conference call is placed via pulver.Communicator a call window opens, offering a set of controls to the user.  These call controls help the user to fine-tune the volume levels for their microphone and speakers, supply muting capability for sound input and output, and allow for the entry of dialpad tone information.

Note:  Only the conference call leader (the party who initiated the call) can add parties to a conference call, drop parties from a conference call in progress, or end the call outright.

  • Click the DialPad icon to reveal a fully-functional, clickable, graphic dialpad.

    

  • Adjust the volume for your speakers and microphone using the provided control slides.  The bar to the immediate right of the control slides illuminates from the bottom-up, indicating the volume levels input to the respective device.

Instant Messaging in a Conference Call

Participants can send and view text messages during a conference call made via pulver.Communicator.  Be aware, though, that all instant messaging that takes place within the IM fields of the Chat/Conference window are visible to all call participants (meaning that you must open a separate IM window to send a private message to any call participant).

Note:  The participation of non-SIP contacts who are invited to Conferences is limited to instant messaging.

When any conference call participant closes the Chat/Conference window they are offered an opportunity to save the contents of the text messaging (refer to Saving the Conference Chat Session).

Saving the Conference Chat Session

Any time a conference call participant closes the Chat/Conference window the Chat History dialog will first display, offering the party an opportunity to save the contents of the instant messaging session for that conference.

Pulver.Communicator offers a name for the log file for the conference IM session, based on an pulver.Communicator system format.  You can, however, set your own file name simply by typing it into the offered field.

Click OK/Save to save the session to the following Windows directory location in Rich Text File (.rtf file extension):

<primary hard drive>:\Documents and Settings\<user account>\Local Settings\Application Data\Free World Dialup\History\Chat\<FWD#>@fwd.pulver.comfwd.pulver.com

Saved IM sessions can be easily opened using Microsoft Word (or any other program that can open files in .rtf format).
