Users of pulver.Communicator are treated not only to robust voice functionality, but they can now broadcast video to their SIP-enabled contacts via webcam and receive webcam video from those contacts as well.

No pulver.Communicator-specific webcam configuration is required, and all Communicator users can avail themselves of the application's video functionality (provided they have a webcam configured and connected to their computer system).  Please note, though, that pulver.Communicator video is only available for person-to-person calls between two SIP-enabled parties, both of whom have a webcam connected and configured to their computer system.

Right-Click-n-Call

With pulver.Communicator, users can make calls to Buddy List contacts that include webcam video with just a single right-click.

  1. Determine the SIP contact to whom you want to place a video call and right-click their display name on your Buddy List to reveal the Context Menu (right-click).  Select the Call with video command.

The call will commence and the call window will display, but rather presenting the Buddy Image normally displayed for the contact (when such an image has been configured by your contact, that is) what will instead be presented is any live video broadcasting from your contact's webcam.

Note:  If your SIP contact has set up a webcam but is not broadcasting video for any reason your video feed window will display a simple black field.  If the SIP contact has not set up a webcam Communicator will display an Image not available message in the video feed window.
  1. Speak to your Buddy.  Use the provided call controls to adjust the volume of the speakers and microphone, to enter numeric keypad information, to pause the call, or to toggle between the Remote and Local video feed.  Refer to Adjusting Video Call Controls for detailed instruction on the use of pulver.Communicator's call controls.

Note:  To make phone calls via pulver.Communicator your PC must have speakers and a microphone plugged into your PC (or a headset plugged into the appropriate jacks).

If for any reason your connection is lost, click the Initiate Video Call button to re-establish the video call.

  1. Click the End Call button to cut the connection.

At connection callers are presented with the remote video feed that is being broadcasted by their call-to party.  You can easily view your own outgoing video broadcast feed, though, by clicking the feed Remote/Local Video button provided to the right of the video field.

Using Local Video you can easily make on-the-spot improvements to your video broadcast feed (i.e., improving camera placement, sharpening focus, adjusting lighting conditions).   And once your video broadcast feed is optimized, simply toggle back to your caller's video broadcast feed by clicking the Remote/Local Video button again.

Adjusting Video Call Controls

Whenever a video call is placed via pulver.Communicator a call window opens, offering a set of controls to the user.  These controls help the user to fine-tune the volume levels for their microphone and speakers, supply muting capability for sound input and output, allow for the entry of dialpad tone information, and provide telephony's ubiquitous Hold feature.

  • To place your Buddy on hold, simply click the Hold button one time.  The button will change to read Resume and the status indicator will display red alongside it.  To take your Buddy off of hold, just click Resume.  The button will once again read Hold and the status indicator alongside it will change back to green.

  • Tick the DialPad checkbox if you need dialpad functionality for any reason.  The window will expand to the right to reveal a fully-functional, clickable, graphic dialpad.

  • Adjust the volume for your speakers and microphone using the provided control slides.  The bar to the immediate right of the control slides illuminates from the bottom-up, indicating the volume levels input to the respective device.

  • Tick the Speaker Mute checkbox to suspend incoming sound, and the Microphone Mute checkbox to prevent outgoing sound.

  • Tick the Initiate Video Call button to reconnect a video call as necessary.  When a video call is made this checkbox is inactive by default, however the checkbox is made active when a video call is disconnected for any reason.
